            About these statistics

Where does the data come from?

Results come from the New York State open data portal (data.ny.gov), which publishes the official winning numbers for every Powerball and Mega Millions draw. Massachusetts plays the same multi-state games, so the numbers are identical to those announced by the Massachusetts State Lottery.

What are hot, cold and overdue numbers?

Hot numbers are the ones drawn most often in the period you pick, and cold numbers are drawn least often. Overdue numbers are those that have gone the longest without being drawn. The frequency grid compares each number's count with what pure chance would predict for the same number of draws.

            Which draws are included?

Only draws under each game's current rules are counted: Powerball since October 7, 2015 (white balls 1–69, Powerball 1–26) and Mega Millions since October 31, 2017 (white balls 1–70, Mega Ball 1–25, reduced to 1–24 from April 8, 2025).

            Can statistics help me win?

No. Every draw is random and independent, so a number that has come up often, or not for a while, is no more or less likely to be drawn next time. These statistics are for interest only.
